Albert Einstein’s definition of insanity is doing the same thing again and again and expecting different results.
I tend to fit this definition at times. Yes. I tend to hold on to things for dear life until they are no longer fruitful, kind of like the unsuccessful mouse from “who stole my cheese” that finds cheese and just eats it till it’s over without looking for more cheese for the future
but to my defense here, in music I feel like it is very difficult to realize when something doesn’t work because:
It takes time to become good, let alone a master of a craft
It takes time to see real monetary results
There is no exact blueprint on how to do it
Trends change all the time, charting music changes.
The people we see online are mainly those who rose up to the top purely because of being music beasts (so their success speaks for them), and those who have mastered the social media game (which marketing speaks for them).
My main problems I face:
I tend to go too narrow and then I miss opportunities because of hyper focus on one thing.
My focus is too wide where I miss the right opportunities because I’m not focused enough.
I tend to keep doing something until the benefits of it are hardly seen
The middle seems to be very hard to find for someone like me, so this year my main focus is on going into adventure mode. meaning doing similar things but also enabling myself to go to uncharted territories. I have to move past this stagnation by creating a safe space for myself to make mistakes while giving myself gratitude and grace for my milestones.
One of the shifts I am going to make will be in the styles of music i’m going to take on. I want to make music that excites me, therefor I am going to make tracks in different styles that are out of my comfort, And I would love for y’all to join me for the ride.
In the coming weeks, I will be showing my paid substack subscribers my thought process behind tracks (in my main style and different tracks i’ll be working on for briefs). I will be sharing thoughts and gems around production and production music. So for $7 a month y’all can start to get insights from the projects i’m working on. I will be giving you an inside look into my music world and exposing you to extra insights from podcast guests
If you want to hear me talk about this in one of my professional rants, feel free to listen to episode 101 on all platforms
